Hamburg approves controversial rezoning for travel center on Southwestern Boulevard

NY HAMBURG — Hamburg Town Board approved controversial rezoning for a travel center at Southwestern Boulevard and Big Tree Road. Town Supervisor Elizabeth Farrell Lorentz and Councilmembers Daniel Kozub, Lynne Dixon, and Nick Ortiz voted in favor of the project for Briad Development, LLC, which will construct an 8,700-square-foot convenience store with gasoline service and quick-service restaurants on approximately 4.14 acres rezoned from C-1 to C-2; Councilmember Frank Bogulski dissented from both the environmental review and rezoning approval votes. The Board also approved amendments to Chapter 65 governing avoidable alarms, adopted a 2026 fee schedule for false alarm responses, approved purchase of approximately 102 parcels from Erie County, and authorized federal grants totaling $566,282 for community development.
