Zoning Board Denies Pigeon Coop Variance

Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of June 2, 2026

NY HAMBURG — Hamburg Zoning Board denies pigeon-coop variance on six-to-one vote. Vice-Chairman Nicole Falkiewicz and five board members voted to deny Ira Butler's request for three area variances to keep 32 pigeons at 3678 Sixth St, citing neighborhood character impact and self-created difficulty; Commissioner Dennis Chapman dissented, arguing the board should focus on zoning, not neighbor conflicts. The board granted two other area variances: unanimous approval for Kristine Sands' shed at 4017 Connors Way and Robert Langheier's garage at 2745 South Creek Rd.

Donald Spittler's battery storage variance was tabled pending state environmental review.
